The Surface Laptop Studio, a revolutionary laptop/tablet hybrid, was unveiled at Microsoft’s latest presentation event.
In terms of performance and functionality, the Surface Laptop Studio appears to be a significant upgrade over previous Surface Laptop models. It has bigger and better specs for improved performance, as expected with new technology, but this model, in particular, can also be used as a tablet.
A 14.4-inch PixelSense display with a resolution of 2400 x 1600 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and Dolby Vision support come standard on the Surface Laptop Studio. A 1080p HD camera with an ambient light sensor is also included, allowing it to automatically adjust based on the environment. It comes with 16GB of RAM and a quad-core Intel i5 processor of 11th generation (up to 32GB of RAM and an Intel i7) as standard (up to 32GB of RAM and an Intel i7). A removable SSD drive with capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB is also available.
There are two graphics options: Intel Iris X Graphics on the Intel i5 version and a GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU on the Intel i7 version. Most crucially, the Surface Laptop Studio boasts a battery life of up to 19 hours for the i5 model and up to 18 hours for the i7 variant.
So it’s a decent laptop, but keep in mind that it’s also a tablet. You can switch to tablet mode at any time by pulling the display forward. In Stage Mode (with the screen propped up), the Laptop Studio can be used as a display, while in Studio Mode it can be used as a touch-screen tablet (i.e. laying down).
With a particular spot for magnetic storage immediately beneath the lip of the keyboard, integration with the Surface Slim Pen 2 is also baked in. While the pen is attached, it will also charge.
The Surface Laptop Studio is available for preorder now, with prices starting at $1,599.99 and shipping on October 5. Remember that it doesn’t include a Surface Slim Pen 2, so you’ll have to pay an additional $129.99 for one.
