On phones that run Android 12, Google began to push Assistant Driving Mode instead of Android Auto.
When XDA Developers used Android Auto in the latest Android 12 beta, they noticed a new prompt, which appears to hint at a complete shutdown of Android Auto on devices.
Google has been working on a new Assistant Driving Mode to replace Android Auto on Android phones for a few years, but it looks that this is the final push to push people to utilize it.
Google’s Assistant Driving Mode was first announced in 2019, however, it was delayed. Google, on the other hand, launched Android Auto for Phone Screens. Google began deploying Assistant Driving Mode in early 2020, however, it is not yet accessible in all countries. Google hasn’t released a list of countries or languages that support the new auto-centric Mode, which is unfortunate.
However, Google has announced that the phone app for Android Auto will be halted, and customers will be notified via a notification. That notification will show when users are attempting to activate Android Auto on some Android 12 devices, essentially implies that Android Auto will only be available for in-car screens, and Android phones will have Assistant Driving Mode. Google later confirmed the shutdown in a statement to 9To5Google, after earlier reports.
We weren’t able to get the notification to show in our Android Auto app at the time of publishing, so it appears that Google is transitioning customers over slowly.
